APC is back up and caching. It seems this was the issue, just wished I figured it out sooner. As of now the server seems to be humming along nicely and the sites are responding well. Still amazes me how much that little program does in terms of performance. Either way, sorry for the issues the last few days. |

After some research I think I have narrowed down the issues of the last couple days. After the PHP update it seems that APC, a program that caches compiled PHP code, has not been running. This could easily be the cause of the server issues. I have a ticket open with my server guys to get it up and running again. It could be 10 min or 4 hours, not sure on their current workload and such. Either way, it makes no sense to open the forum in it's current state and I have to go to bed soon (work early AM).
So, if they get it back in operation within the next 30 min or so I will turn the forum back on, if not, hopefully it will be operating by 6AM EST when I wake up and I can turn it on then.

| They were actually setting up to wipe the drive and reload an blank OS on the server. They tried one last hardware swap and that did the trick. The server lives.
I am working an upgrade deal though for the near future. I would say within the next 1-3 months I will be upgrading our server. It's been almost 4 years on this machine so it's time. |

Well, this is the reply to my support ticket:

I just came back from the DC working on your server. It will not boot up. When I first consoled it, it was sitting on the GRUB screen, showing just the word GRUB. After I reboot it, it does nothing. It wont POST, or boot. We are going to have to take it down to look into. We are already a bit backed up because of this morning, so my work bench already has 1 server on it, another ready to go on it. Ill let you know when I am able to look into your server.

So, I have no idea. I have to work tomorrow 7am-7pm so I am not sure what to tell you guys. The good news is that the server went down at 10AM and I have a database backup from 5AM. So if there are disk issues we should only lose a couple of early morning hours of data.
I will keep you updated as the info comes in. |

| So there was a power outage about 10AM EST. Server did not come back up on it's own which happens sometimes. I was hoping to log into provider's support desk at work but for some reason the Panera who's WIFI I jump on has it blocked? Either way, they will cycle the server and hopefully it will come back up. If it does, I will want to run some routines on the database to make sure we clear out any errors from the power loss.
So, at best a couple of hours. |

I went to reboot the server and it's not coming back up on it's own. Usually not a big deal, just requires a tech in the DC to hit the power button. Obviously some "optimizations" that were made yesterday did not behave as expected. I will probably reverse them when the server comes back up. This will take time for the reversal processes to complete. Depending on some other things I may complete something else that I did not have time to do yesterday as well. We will see. I am not about to give a time frame since lately they have been way the fuck off.
Who knows, maybe it's time for a new server. Whatever. I will post back here as I have more info.

Well, I am "in queue". I have to run a process after the work is done but I have to go to sleep. When I wake up in 5 hours I will run that process and hope it finishes before I have to run out for work. If not I will let it run and try to call Osi and have him turn the site back on. If not, it will have to wait until early evening. :( |

I hate this shit. :) Server managment was supposed to do something that was not done so the repair process is hanging again. I took and uploaded a backup just before the process was run should I have to restore it. This will take a bit but my downtime estimates as of late are way off so I will not bother. Will update as info is available.

Fuck it. Since we have been down most of the day I am taking some time to mount a seperate backup drive in the server and do some partition resizing. More info soon.

Well I actually went out with some friends with instructions to my server people to do one last thing and that they had 5 hours to do it....I am back now and it is not done yet. I just sent them a ticket that if it is not done by midnight that we will have to do it another time. So we will be back in 30-40 min one way or another. |

I don't have details but there looks to have been another power outage. Unfortunately, I have to run to work again. This time I was able to submit a ticket before going to work so they are working on getting the server powered back on. The other good news it that is there is an issue like last time I have a solid backup from 6AM this morning. Let's just hope it comes back without issues this time. |
